Spiderbait-Tonight Alright

Spiderbait. I've always seen them as a classic rock revival band along the lines of Wolfmother and Jet but other people have their opinions. With plenty of punk rock, garage and psychedelic influences, these fucked up Australians have been hitting the charts with their music. This album contains the ultra hit 'Black Betty'(originally done by the underrated southern rock band Ram Jam) as well as the garage pop hit, 'Fucken Awesome'. The Gloryholes-Want A Divorce

Take New Bomb Turks, add a splash of Supercharger and a bit of The Marked Men and what you come out with is The Gloryholes. Part raunchy garage rock and part hypercharged punk rock, The Gloryholes gives tons of homages (maybe rip offs, i don't care) of other popularized bands of the genre (give a listen to 'Immune' and you'll hear some familiar Hives riffage), but by the time you realize the album is already finished. Oingo Boingo-Only A Lad

What can i say, this is secretly my favorite Oingo Boingo album. The entire album sounds like a fucked up concept album that only the genius of the likes of Danny Elfman, Steve Bartek and
Kerry Hatch could come up with. 'Nasty Habits', 'Little Girls' and 'Only A Lad' have the trademarked Mystic Knights of The Oingo Boingo cabaret like choral sections (you can hear early shades of Nightmare Before Christmas sing alongs in most of the tracks), while 'Perfect System' and 'Controller' still manage to scare even the most free minded with their frequent time signatures. This album should be the starting point for new Oingo listeners...maybe.
Oh yea, The Kinks cover kind of ruins the album from being completely perfect, it's a decent cover but sometimes i skip over it.

"Middle-aged Whore" on Wacky Hi-Jinks was, according to the back cover, "recorded in our underwear." Musically, however, AOD is no joke, a fact immediately apparent from "A.O.D. vs Godzilla," the killer stun-guitar instrumental that opens the album.
